As the name indicates, Kathak is basically a dance form involving story telling using body movements and expressions. It is a wonderful dance form originally performed in temples and was considered as a royal entertainment of ancient kings and nawabs. This dance form prospered under Jaipur Gharana in Rajasthan and attained a unique style. The dancers wear traditional colorful dresses and ornaments, and the dance is performed in the background of music and the instruments like sarangi, table, sitar, etc. The dance involves Nrittya (intricate foot movement and mudras) and Abhinaya (expressions).
