About mask making
The traditional craftsmanship of mask making is a specialty of Monpas of Tawang. They make beautiful masks to express themselves during religious dance, folk dance and other cultural programs. Religious masks symbolizing Gods and spirits are used only during religious dance festivals and are enshrined in monasteries during the rest of the time. Folk art masks signify entertainment function and have no design restrictions. Human masks, animal masks, demon and God masks are the basic types of masks. Colour of the masks is important and has some specific meaning.
