About kathputli dance
Kathputli means puppet made of wood, and it is a popular string puppetry dance form of Rajasthan. Here the puppets made of wood and cotton cloth are personified as different characters of folk tales and stories. They are controlled using strings tied to them to give various intricate movements. The puppeteers display their skills with strings including horse riding, dancing, fighting, etc., of the characters. Other than mythological tales, other themes depicting present day social issues are presented to create awareness among people and to help them to solve such issues.

It is performed during fairs, festivals and cultural programs throughout Rajasthan.
Originally practiced by Bhati community and later practiced by the ruling families of the state.
It is a popular performing art from of Rajasthan. Efforts are being continued to promote this ancient art form.
