  1. About national art gallery

    National Art Gallery established in 1907 is one of the oldest art galleries in India. It is located inside the Government Museum at Pantheon Street in Egmore. Henry Irwin was the architect of this Art Gallery, which was built during Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee celebration in Indo-Sarasenic style of architecture. It has a collection of magnificent paintings displayed in four different sections, namely, Raja Ravi Varma Painting Gallery, Tanjore Painting Gallery, Indian Traditional Art Gallery and Decorative Art Gallery. Paintings from the Mughal and Rajput era, as well as several handicrafts and sandalwood sculptures are the highlights of the Gallery.
