About chari dance
Chari dance is a popular folk dance performed all over Rajasthan during marriages, festivals, and on the occasion of birth of male child. It is a group dance performed by Rajasthani women. Usually the women travel long distance to collect water in chari and this dance reflects the joy of the same. Women wearing colorful dresses and a variety of ornaments carry brass pots or earthenware on their heads and perform the chari dance, perfectly balancing the pots. Usually the pots are ignited using cotton seeds dipped in oil, which produce a wonderful effect while performing the dance at night. The dance is played in the background of Rajasthani folk music and instruments like dholak, harmonium, dhol, bankia, nagada and thali.
