About kalakshetra foundation
Kalakshetra Foundation is a cultural academy founded by the legendary dancer Rukmini Devi Arundale in 1936 to preserve and develop Indian art, particularly Bharatanatyam Dance. Arundale developed her own style, the Kalakshetra style, of Bharatanatyam, cleansing it from unnecessary elements, and by the development of new ideas. For the first time, group performance was introduced in Bharatanatyam and Bharatanatyam based ballets were performed in different venues. Under her effort and guidance Kalakshetra achieved recognition in the national and international level.
