Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh as a part of the City Palace. Hawa Mahal was an extension of the women's chamber with the purpose of allowing royal families women to view the happenings everyday life in the street below without being seen. It is a five-storey red sandstone structure and has with over 950 windows, Hawa Mahal was made in such a way that the breeze circulates through these windows, giving the palace its name.
