  1. About desert national park

    Desert National Park established in 1980, and situated in the sand dunes of Thar Desert, is one of the largest national parks of Rajasthan. It has an extensive area of rolling sand dunes, sharp rocks and thick salt lake bottoms. One can spot various species of migratory birds and animals in this national park. Varieties of eagles, falcons, vultures, buzzards, larks, kestrels, hamers, etc., are spotted here. It is an abode of several rarest species of birds, especially the Great Indian Bustard. Bengal fox, desert fox, chinkara, blackbuck, desert cat, etc., are some of the animals spotted here. In addition, there are varieties of reptiles including krait, monitor lizard, Russel viper, etc. Fossils of several million years old fossils of Dinosaurs, plants and animals are seen in this area

    What makes it special?

    The Desert National Park is the home for a large number of animals, reptiles and some rarest species of birds, including the endangered Great Indian Bustard. Fossils of millions of years old dinosaurs, animals and plants are found here.

    The Desert National Park is located at about 45 km from Jaisalmer and can be reached by cab.

    How to make this visit memorable?

    Jeep safari is the best and convenient option to explore the Desert National Park. Best time to visit is October to January when large number of migratory birds can be seen. Enjoy the trip with your friends and if possible stay a night in a tent.

    Do’s and Don’ts

    Be prepared to spend a whole day and night in the desert for best experience. Do not forget camera and binoculars. Plan the trip in winter.
