About cochin carnival
Cochin Carnival is a colorful celebration held every year in the last week of December and ends on the New Year day. Its origin can be traced back to the New Year celebrations of the Portuguese, which was later revived in 1984 and continued on a grander scale. The celebrations include several competitions and games such as sea swimming, beach bike race, beach volleyball, beach football, etc. A grand procession is held on the New Year Day accompanied by caparisoned elephants, Panchavadyam orchestra, folk arts, cultural programs, etc., with the participation of thousands of people.
