    Goa Liberation Day is celebrated to commemorate the day when Goa was liberated from the exploitative rule of the Portuguese on December 19, 1961 by the assistance of Indian defense forces. Independence of India from the British rule was complete on this day. This momentous day is celebrated by the people of Goa with great fanfare. A torch light procession is held from three different locations, which finally meet at the Azad Maidan, where the participants pay tributes to the martyrs. Several cultural programs are organized to celebrate the Goa Liberation day.
