About sonepur mela
Sonepur Mela held in Sonepur in Bihar is the biggest cattle fair in Asia. It is held on the confluence of the sacred rivers Ganges and Gandak and has got religious significance too. Several farm animals are brought to the fair including buffaloes, horses, donkeys, dogs, goats, rabbits and camel in addition to varieties of birds and poultries. The Haathi Bazaar (Elephant market) where thousands of elephants are lined up is the most attractive place to watch. However trade in elephant is prohibited in the Mela since 2004 but are allowed to display. There are several stalls, exhibitions and entertainment at the site where one can get handicrafts, agricultural implements, garments, and several accessories. The Mela that last for one month attracts millions of tourist from India and foreign countries who are provided with all kinds of facilities at the Sonepur fair.

This is the largest fair of this kind in Asia, and should be visited at least once in life time.
