About cheiraoba festival
Cheiraoba festival also called Sajibu Cheiraoba is a sacred festival of Manipur, which also happens to be a New Year festival of the state. On this day, people clean and specially decorate their houses. Special rituals are performed for prosperity. They worship their deities by offering special dishes in banana leaves and perform pujas. After completing the offering to the deities, the dishes are shared to relatives, friends and neighbours, which is known as Mathel Laanba. In the evening they climb the top of a hill which symbolically represents the upliftment of human culture. People belonging to all religions take part in the celebrations of Cheiraoba festival.
