About chatra mela
Chatra Mela is a very popular cattle fair held in Chatra during Durgashtami which happens to be in September / October every year. The mela has a history that dates back to 1882 and is held with great pomp and show all these years. A large number of traders and visitors from different parts of the country gather to this festival. Here one can see varieties of cattle and other animals like bullocks, cows, goats, etc. People wear new colorful dresses and they also color the cattle and adorn them with colorful clothes. Cattle are considered as the symbol of fortune in Jharkhand and hence this fair has great significance. Several stalls selling grocery items, jewelries, and snacks can be seen on the site.
