About galdan namchot
Tsongkhapa was a great Tibetan saint-scholar and teacher of Tibetan Buddhism in the 14th century, who was also the founder of Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism. Galdan Namchot is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Tsongkhapa. People of Ladakh celebrate this festival in a grand manner. All houses, public buildings and monasteries are lit up which signifies eradication of darkness. Galdan Namcot also signifies the commencement of New Year celebrations in Ladakh. Varieties of traditional dishes like Thukpa, Momo, etc., are prepared in every home. Friends and relatives convey greetings to each other and have food together.
