About kollam pooram
Kollam Pooram is celebrated on the last day of the 10-day festival celebrations at the Asramam Sree Krishna Swamy temple. It is held in the month of April every year in connection with the Vishu Festival. Deities from the nearby temples in the city are taken on caparisoned elephants to pay homage to Lord Sree Krishna in the Asramam Temple, which is known as Cherupooram. Two groups of 15 caparisoned elephants on each side are lined up amidst traditional orchestra. Kudamattom ceremony (rhythmic changing of parasols) is a fascinating event to watch. Several cultural programs, folk arts and music programs are performed every day. The fascinating fireworks display adds excitement to the festivities.
