    Kottankulangara Chamaya Vilakku is a 2-day festival celebrated in the Kottankulangara Bhagavathy Temple, Kollam in the month of March every year. It involves a rare ritual in which men are dressed up as women. Thousands of men as well as transgenders from all over Kerala dressed up as women, wearing saris, churidars, ornaments, and wonderful make up visit the temple and offer prayers to the goddess with a belief that the goddess will bless them with prosperity. The main attraction of the festival is that during the festival night these people hold traditional temple lamps and line up in a colorful procession accompanied by traditional orchestras.
