About bhavnath fair
Bhavnath Fair is held at Bhavnath Mahadev Temple in Junagadh during Mahashivaratri. The temple is colorfully decorated on the festival day and the fair is held on the nearby ground with the participation of thousands of devotees. The unique rituals begin at midnight of Mahashivaratri when Naga bavas arrive on elephants’ back. Blowing conch shells, tungis and turis, they lead a huge procession to the temple to commence the religious rituals. It is believed that Lord Shiva performed Shiva tandava on this particular night and it is the time for performing the mahapuja. Devotees also believe that the shrine is the abode of the nine immortal nathas and Lord Shiva himself visits the shrine during Shivaratri. The fair lasts for three days and the devotees are served free meals. Varieties of handicrafts and accessories are sold in a number of stalls.
