About sekrenyi festival
Sekrenyi festival, also known as Phousanyi, is celebrated by the Angami tribe of Nagaland in the Angami month of Kezei, which usually falls in February. The word “sekre” means purification, and it is a purification festival celebrated with an objective of purifying the body and soul of the humans as well as the entire village. The duration of the festival varies from 10 to 15 days and it involves several rituals and ceremonies. Singing, dancing, feasts, and several other entertainments are parts of the festival. Men and women dress up in their traditional attires, males carry hunting spades and women carry baskets, and they sing traditional songs. Sports events, tug of war, wrestling and several other games are organized.
