About madai festival
Madai festival is celebrated in Chhattisgarh during the months of December to March. It starts in the Bastar region in December and tours from one place to another in the subsequent months and ends in March. The tribal people hold a procession and gather in a large open ground with the participation of thousands of devotees and tourists. They worship their deities and a goat is sacrificed to please the tribal gods. Then the celebration starts amidst beating of drums and bells. Several cultural programs, songs, folk dance and drama are conducted in the open space. The villagers consume drinks and dance to the tribal tunes. The cheerful mood of the crowd and the merrymaking continue till late night. Several stalls and eating joints are there to entertain the visitors with attractive articles and delicious food.
