  1. About gorsam chorten kora

    Gorsam Chorten Kora festival is a 3-day festival celebrated at the Gorsam Chorten at Zemithang, which is at about 90 km from Tawang city. Gorsam Chorten is a large stupa, which is believed to be built in the 12th century. It is a replica of the great stupa of Boudhanath in Nepal. There is a well paved path around the stupa, where people perform circumambulations with prayers, which is known as Kora. The festival is celebrated during the end of the first month of lunar calendar, which usually falls in March-April. Thousands of people from the state as well as from Bhutan participate in the festival. Mask dance performed by different communities is the special attraction of the festival. In the evening, people join the colorful candlelight procession.
