About namkaran ceremony
Namkaran or naming ceremony of a newly born child is performed on 11th day or the 101 day after child birth. Namkaran ceremony is performed by the family priest. After reciting mantras from Vedas, he blesses the child and pujas are performed to the family deity. Women of the family and neighbours sing songs and offer good wishes on the occasion. Children are often given the names of popular gods and goddesses. Some specific names are given to children who are born as the first child or born to parents after a long time after their marriage.
