  1. About soorai viduthal

Soorai Viduthal, which literally means ‘throwing of fruits’ is a bizarre tradition followed for last 250 years at Solamalai Sri Azhagar Temple Dindigul. On this day, devotes bring several baskets of banana with them to the temple. After displaying the bananas in front of the deity special pujas were performed. Later these bananas were thrown to the people waiting outside the temple. It is a thanksgiving ceremony to the God for showering his blessing for a plentiful harvest. It is performed every year on the third day of Tamil month Thai (Mid-January). There are people in the village who have been doing this ritual for more than 25 years. Even though they reside in different places they come to this temple every year on this day to perform this traditional custom.
