  1. About kodaikanal

    Popularly known as the “Princess of Hill Stations”, Kodaikanal is a beautiful hill town situated on the southern tip of Palani hills in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Kodaikanal in Tamil language means “the Gift of the Forest”. Situated at an altitude of 2133 metres above mean sea level, this picturesque city is the most sought after summer holiday destination of the tourists and honeymoon couples. Nestled amidst deep evergreen forest, serene lakes, misty valleys, rolling hills and spectacular waterfalls, Kodaikanal offers an enchanting experience to the visitors. It is said that the early residents of this region were the people belonging to Palaiyar tribe. The British entered here in the 19th century. They constructed and developed the town and used it as refuge to escape from the scorching heat of the summer. Later in the 20th century several Indians settled here and subsequently Kodaikanal became one of the most visited tourist spots in India. There are several tourist sites in and around Kodaikanal such as Coaker’s Walk, Bryant Park, Kodaikanal Lake, Kurinji Andavar Temple, Bear Shola Falls and many more. Kurinji flower, a rare beautiful flower, blossoms here once in 12 years, which is a spectacular sight to watch. Kodaikanal experiences a pleasant and cool weather throughout the year and it is an ideal tourist spot to spend your summer holidays.

    By Road

    Buses ply regularly to Kodaikanal from all major cities like Madurai, Palani, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Chennai, Kanyakumari, etc. Taxis and vans are available for local transportation in and around the city.

    By Train

    The nearest railway stations are Palani at 64 km, Kodaikanal Road railway station at 80 km, Dindigul Junction railway station at 100 km and Madurai Railway station at 114 km. From the railway station, you can reach the city by bus or taxi.

    By Air

    The nearest airports are Madurai Airport at 115 km and Coimbatore International airport at 170 km. From there one can reach Kodaikanal by hiring a cab or taxi or use bus service from the city bus stations at Madurai and Coimbatore.
