The district of Lahaul-Spiti in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh consists of the two formerly separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti.
The Lahaul and Spiti district comprises of both the valleys which are separated by Kunzum pass. One of the most unexplored destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Spiti or Spiti valley are located at a very high altitude in the eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. This region is a desert mountain valley and is known for its beautiful monasteries and untouched natural beauty. The terrain of Spiti Valley is highly difficult and the entire region becomes completely isolated during the winters. There are beautiful monasteries that command a visit alongside some unique shrines that speak of the customs and faith of this region. A visit to Spiti would remain incomplete without visiting the monasteries here. The Kye/Kee/Ki Monastery and the Dhankar Monastery are must-visits. For adventure-enthusiast there are a few trekking trails and mountain biking routes that they must go for. The Chandratal lake and Surajtal lakes are some of the most beautiful lakes in the world and are among the highest lakes of the world. This region plays host to a number of festivals which are all celebrated with a lot of fervor, which include burning of the devil, chaam dance and Pauri festival.
The Valleys of Lahaul- Spiti are blessed with nature’s best. It is one of the sparsely populated areas and is ideal for a place for some solitude. It also offers a lot of adventure activities such as Skiing along with Yak Safari and exciting wildlife trails. Leh-Spiti are not accessible during winters for most of the people as the Manali-Leh route is closed and the other route from Shimla via Kinnaur also sees lots of disturbances due to landslides and heavy snowfall.

Lahaul - Spiti is connected by road to the rest of Himachal Pradesh and other adjoining states from May till November. Buses from Manali trundle across the Rohtang Pass from late June till end of October to enter Lahaul and connect to Keylong and Darcha. Lahaul is on the route to Leh along the National Highway from Manali. Buses, rented cars and jeeps connect Spiti to Manali across the Kunzum La pass. Alternatively, there is a road connection that goes north from Shimla through the district of Kinnaur up into the Spiti valley.
Jogindernagar is the nearest railhead. Chandigarh and Shimla are also two broad gauge railheads for Lahaul .Taxi's and bus services are available at these stations to take you directly to Lahaul. and Spiti.
Take a flight to Bhuntar airport and from there on the 40kms to Manali and then 115kms through the Rohtang pass to Keylong. The road journey will take 6 hours and can be done by jeep or bus.
